Previously KNOT JUST PICS. Same shit, different name.

Susie and Wes got married at the awesome vintage fair ground Marleybrook House. I couldn’t think of a more perfect venue for these two amazing people to tie the knot and party with all their favourite people! Music was a big part of their day and they had 2 amazing bands play and Wes surprised Susie with the most amazing song he had written for her, which just made us fall even more in love with this amazing couple (I was already crushing on Suse in her elegant as hell slip dress and Some Enchanted flower crown). Their beautiful outdoors ceremony was interrupted midway by the most massive monsoon style rain, but amazingly both them and their guests just rocked it and if anything, it made their day more of an adventure! Suse and Wes, you guys are just too amazing for words, and your beautiful love for each other was such a delight to share. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your adventure!

  • When that late summer sunset light plays ball - it was meant to be bucketing down, but nature clearly had other plans. This is the last pic we grabbed before Sara and Barend went into their reception. Their love was such a joy to witness 😍
  • There’s nothing more special than the chance to witness two families coming together for their kids.
  • 2 Photographers 2 focal lengths at 2 angles, 1 moment and 1 Sara. Which do you prefer?
  • Sara and Barend. I love how during their ceremony they kept squeezing each other’s hands, an almost imperceptible sign of their love and excitement for doing this amazing thing.
  • Sara and Barend got married yesterday. Their wedding was everything I (selfishly) needed to restore my love and faith in what I do. Getting to witness a love as rich, and deep as theirs was a very welcome blessing that still has me grinning today.
  • Things that make me beam with happiness: witnessing Sara and Barend’s one in a million kind of love yesterday.
Things that me fume: not being able to edit more previews as Load Shedding has kicked in, again...
  • A taste of something so special. Dee and Emile 🔥
  • Incredibly excited to see these two again tomorrow for their wedding!
  • I’ve had this on my heart for a while, so here it goes... When did weddings stop being about two unique humans with unique stories joining their lives together?

Weddings have changed a LOT since we first started shooting them, and I sometimes feel like photographers and definitely social media are to blame for this.
When I look through Instagram and Pinterest, I’m bombarded with the same messages and images over and over again. To have a meaningful wedding, you need to wear a dress worth the same as a deposit on a home, look like a model, get married somewhere exotic - preferably on a mountain or in Iceland, have decor and details oozing out of every crevice and THIS is what makes your wedding worthy... Likes on Facebook and Instagram.
Somewhere , along the line we have lost what we are meant to be doing here. Let me just be clear, there is NOTHING wrong with any of the things I’ve just mentioned, if they are really what you want/who you are /are able to afford.
But I feel like too many people are facing too much pressure to have weddings that they think they are meant to, instead of what they want. I totally drank the cool aid and started trying to make the pictures I thought I should instead of observing what was in front of me, and honestly? I stopped loving the pictures I was making. I may have become jaded with time, but I feel as a photographer far more fulfilled when I get to be witness to people telling their truth - When the focus is on the story and the people involved rather than what’s going to get the most likes and me trying to create content rather than document what’s in front of me. And want to know a little secret? It’s revolutionized how we shoot and how we approach weddings - serving the two unique individuals and their unique story produces both better photos and memories and keeps me in love with what I do.

We so often miss the real stories when we are preoccupied with shooting a wedding for Instagram instead of the people who have trusted us to memorialize their story.
TLDR:
People make weddings.
And they are all freaking awesome. *end rant, continue as you were...*
  • Kelly and Tim’s misty forest wedding is up on our blog today.
  • Can you feel my heart?
  • Those lazy Monday vibes. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous of how hard Stu is chilling today while we work hard to keep him and the other fluffs in stock of parsley, kale and other salad goods ☺️

  • People watching from the shade.
  • Exploring the narrow streets and alleyways of Stone Town, Zanzibar. This place reminds us so much of the old part of Jeddah with the African/Arab cross culture and architecture.
  • It may be “sun’s out, guns out”, but it’s “balls out” at sunset when the heat finally let’s up.
  • Excellent vibe on what’s left of the beach at high tide.
  • Ocean and people watching from a shadey spot. The guy on the right, dressed in tradition Masai garb, is David. We had along chat about tattoos before he sold me a bracelet.
  • Dear god it’s hot. But also quite nice.
  • Hello Zanzibar 🤗 Can’t wait to get in that water!
  • We’re a hazard when we’re walking the streets cus we’re always looking up and bumping into people. Obsessed with the beautiful Dutch architecture!
  • If you really want to blow your mind in Amsterdam, try walking round an art gallery after visiting a “coffeeshop”. 🤯
  • Yesterday it was sunny, but the overcast sky and light drizzle suit this place way more. #wechooseadventure_scotland #wechooseadventure
  • Exploring Edinburgh at night. In this place, if it’s not raining, it’s about to rain. #wechooseadventure #wechooseadventure_scotland
  • Made a special mission to see these guys in Glasgow last night. Absolutely epic! @coheed
